Score Predictions for Panthers at Falcons

In this story:
Schuyler Callihan: Falcons 21, Panthers 16
A rookie QB hasn't won a Week 1 game in 21 years. Bryce Young doesn't have history on his side and with a beat-up receiver room, he's got an uphill battle in the season opener. Atlanta gets to 21 the unconventional way in what is a sloppy game for both offenses.
Matt Welch: Panthers 17, Falcons 14
This opener is going to rest on the defense. The Panthers' front seven will have its work cut out, especially considering the Brian Burns saga that’s going on right now. But if he suits up and leads the way he’s capable of, they can easily control the line of scrimmage. Keeping that up for four quarters will continue to be the issue. Atlanta will likely lean heavily on the running game, so depth could also play an issue for the Carolina 'D'. Bryce Young just needs to be able to control the game, get a few scores, and hold on for dear life as the game winds down. This could easily go the other way, but I have less faith in Atlanta than I do in Carolina right now.
Tyler Ball: Falcons 17 Panthers 13
Get ready for a show. This game will set the tone for the new starting QB rivalry in the NFC South between Desmond Ridder and Bryce Young. I expect that with most of Young’s offensive weapons banged up or out this week, Reich will rely on the defense to come up with big stops and turnovers to help out his rookie quarterback.
If the Panthers want to start the season off with a win they are going to need to be careful not to rack up careless penalties as they are facing one of the most disciplined teams in football. Finally, they have to convert in the red zone and not settle for field goals on the road.
