Seven Panthers From 2022 Roster Remain Unsigned

A few familiar guys still looking for jobs.

The first big wave of free agency is well behind us and as we enter the final weeks of the offseason, there are still a handful of Carolina Panthers who are in search of a job.

As a matter of fact, seven players from last year's roster remain unsigned. Here are those seven.

WR Rashard Higgins

Higgins was a quality depth receiver for Baker Mayfield in Cleveland and many thought he would see an increased role in Carolina. At the very least, the expectation was that Higgins would put up some sort of production in a rotational role. However, Higgins appeared in only three games (nine offensive snaps) and recorded no stats on the season.

WR Andre Roberts

Roberts has been one of the best return men in the NFL over the last decade. Carolina felt much better about their kickoff return situation heading into last season but a knee issue landed him on injured reserve, limiting him to just three games.

C Pat Elflein

Elflein spent two seasons with the Panthers, playing both guard and center. Guard was quite the adventure for him but he didn't look all that bad at center. He began the year as the starter but suffered a hip injury that required surgery, thus ending his season. Bradley Bozeman took over the starting duties and the offensive line dominated with him controlling things up front.

DE Matt Ioannidis

Carolina thought the signing of Ioannidis would help their interior pass rush but he produced just one sack and nine QB hits on the year. He played much of the season banged up with neck, back, and calf injuries.

LB Damien Wilson

Wilson saw his production increase just about every year since he's been in the league. That was until this past season. Wilson had arguably the worst season of his career and was essentially a non-factor for Carolina. He finished the 2022 campaign with 38 tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks, and two QB hits.

CB Justin Layne

The Panthers claimed Layne off of waivers late in the season but he chose to not suit up for the team and actually never showed up. Carolina placed him on the reserve/did not report list.

S Sean Chandler

Chandler served as a depth option at safety and was primarily used on special teams. In his two years with the Panthers, Chandler registered 67 tackles.
