Chris Tabor has been in the head coach's seat before in the NFL but it was on short notice. Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy tested positive for COVID, so Tabor was thrown into the interim role for a game.

This time around, Tabor has that role for a full six weeks and in his first full week on the job, he's already learned a lot.

"What I've learned is there's things that come across my desk that maybe I didn't see happening," Tabor said Wednesday. "I try to get in early, write down a to-do list and what happens is I'm marking it out and more things come across that you don't anticipate. Just trying to handle it properly, I think that's probably the biggest thing."

When you're the head coach of an NFL team, your responsible for just about everything. You have to know who is injured and the extent of it which means meeting regularly with the medical team. You have to be in conversations with the GM on the daily about the roster. You have to field questions from the media more than once a week. There's just a lot more to it, as you would expect.

"When you're just a position coach, you're in your own little world. Now you have the whole thing," Tabor said. "A guy might have to go home, someone is sick in the family, you might have to tend to somebody else's problem or just making sure you're massaging a problem and smoothing it out before it becomes a really big problem."

Tabor will look to pick up his first win Sunday afternoon against the New Orleans Saints. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. EST.
