Panthers Sign Linebacker to Active Roster

In this story:
Since placing tight end Stephen Sullivan and outside linebacker Marquis Haynes Sr. on injured reserve, the Carolina Panthers have kept their active roster at 51. Friday evening, they made the decision to sign linebacker Chandler Wooten off the practice squad, filling one of the two remaining spots on the 53.
Wooten appeared in nine games last season for the Panthers, primarily on special teams. He recorded just one tackle but proved his worth on that side of the ball. Wooten made the team's initial 53-man roster but was one of the three players waived in order to make room for OL Calvin Throckmorton, LB Claudin Cherelus, and DB D'Shawn Jamison, who were all claimed off waivers.
He'll likely assume a similar role this season as well as serving as a depth linebacker.
