In this story:

The Carolina Panthers will hire Todd Wash as its defensive line coach, according to Dan Graziano of ESPN.

Wash does have some familiarity with the folks inside the Panthers' building having spent one year with Dom Capers in Jacksonville and two years in Seattle with GM Scott Fitterer.

Wash has been coaching defensive line in the NFL since 2008 and also has five years of coordinating experience. Over the past two years, he served as the d-line coach for the Detroit Lions on Dan Campbell's staff. In his two years on the job, the Lions struggled to stop the run and getting after the quarterback, ranking in the bottom half of the league in both categories. Much of that is personnel driven, though. He had two top-10 finishes in rushing defense during his two years in Seattle and had two defenses finish in the top-10 in sacks per game while in Jacksonville. You could make the argument that this group he will takeover in Carolina is the most talent he has worked with.

On the player side of things, this hire will hopefully give them stability after going through three position coaches this past season - Paul Pasqualoni, Terrance Knighton, and Don Johnson.

Wash's NFL Coaching Resume

2008-10: Defensive Line Coach, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

2011-12: Defensive Line Coach, Seattle Seahawks

2013-15: Defensive Line Coach/Run Game Coordinator, Jacksonville Jaguars

2016-20: Defensive Coordinator, Jacksonville Jaguars

2021-22: Defensive Line Coach, Detroit Lions
