Every offseason, teams will look for ways to create more cap room and one way of doing so is moving off of veteran players who aren't necessarily key contributors or are replaceable.

Brad Spielberger of Pro Football Focus recently listed one cut candidate for all 32 NFL teams and I'll admit, I wasn't expecting kicker Eddy Pineiro to be his choice for the Carolina Panthers.

"Carolina does not have many options here, which just adds to the challenge the new regime faces as it works to turn the franchise around. Pineiro was inconsistent this past season, so the Panthers might as well save money and search for a young player who can win the long-term job."

Pineiro did see a dip in percentages - both extra point attempts and field goals - falling from 93.8% to 85% on PATs and 94.3% to 86.2% on field goals. By cutting Pineiro, the Panthers would clear $1.85 million in cap space but accumulate $695k in dead money.

With Chris Tabor no longer the special teams coordinator in Carolina, it's not far-fetched to think that a new kicker next season could be in the cards.

Why the Panthers Shouldn't Spend Big Money on a Receiver
