Report: Panthers Hiring Harold Goodwin as Assistant Head Coach

Canales to hire his lead assistant.

Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network is reporting that the Carolina Panthers are hiring Harold Goodwin as an assistant head coach and run game coordinator.

Garofolo says in a later post on X that "this has been in the work for days."

After the firing of James Campen and Chris Tabor, it is clear that Canales has full control over his staff. The NFL Network reported earlier today that Canales is hiring Brad Idzik as his offensive coordinator.

Folks around the league were wondering if Canales' staff would have more of a Seattle or Tampa Bay flair, and currently it is exceedingly Tampa Bay. Goodwin is following Canales to Carolina from their division rival.

Goodwin heads to Carolina with experience at the highest level. He is a two-time Super Bowl champion, and an NCAA national champion as a head coach. His history as an offensive coordinator and assistant head coach bring real experience to Canales' young staff.

Goodwin's coaching history:

1995-1997: Graduate assistant at Michigan

1998-1999: Offensive line coach at Eastern Michigan

2000-2003: Offensive line coach at Central Michigan

2004-2006: Assistant offensive line coach for the Chicago Bears

2007-2011: Offensive line coach and quality control coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers

2012: Offensive line coach for the Indianapolis Colts

2013-2017: Offensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals

2019-2022: Assistant head coach and run game coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
