NFL Insider Says Panthers Will Have to 'Ridiculously Overspend' to Make a Great Hire

In this story:
Firing two head coaches in two years is never a good look. It shows a lack of patience from ownership and a lack of success on the field in most cases, particularly in this one in Carolina.
Panthers owner David Tepper hasn't just fired two in two years, though. He's fired three coaches in five years on the football side and has also fired two head coaches on the Charlotte FC side in the franchise's short two-year existence. Whether he believes he has patience or not, the optics say he doesn't.
What coordinator who is looking to become a first-time head coach is going to look at this job opening in Carolina and think that's where I need to go? This is what Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk discussed on his show earlier this week.
"Good luck hiring someone who is viable and who has options. Yeah, it's only one of 32 jobs, but who is going to want that job if they can choose between working for a good owner and working for an owner who is way too involved? He's going to have a hard time making a great hire this time around unless he's willing to ridiculously overspend."
In some respects, it's hard to disagree. The prospective candidates know they will be working on a short leash the moment they take the job and will feel pressure the moment the team enters a mini stretch of bad games. However, there are only 32 of these jobs and although there are multiple openings every year, you never know when your next opportunity may arise.
Odds to be the Panthers' Next Head Coach
