BREAKING: Panthers select Oregon EDGE DJ Johnson in 2023 NFL Draft

In this story:
The Carolina Panthers have traded up to No. 80 in the third round to select Oregon linebacker DJ Johnson. The Panthers sent the 93rd and 132nd overall picks to Pittsburgh in the deal.
This past season, Johnson recorded 39 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, two pass breakups, and one forced fumble.
Scouting report from NFL Draft Bible
Firm build with adequate length. Aligns both to the strong and weak side as standup edge. He mainly plays in a 2pt stance outside of the tackle but can reduce down and play as a 4i or head up on the tackle. Real edge setter that can play the run. The team is not afraid to have him cover the flat. Shows enough fluidity and movement skills to do so. A lot to work through as a pass rusher. Heavy-handed and a good bull rusher but lacks the traits or technique to win consistently. Adequate but not explosive get-off that keeps tackles setting at normal angles. Doesn’t present the appropriate ankle flexion to flatten his rush path. Johnson will need time to develop a pass rush plan, but between his size and ability to surf the run or play the flat, he can find some usage as a later-round pickup.
Panthers remaining picks
4th round: No. 114 overall
5th round: No. 145 overall
