Panthers Trade Kicker Zane Gonzalez

Carolina moves the veteran kicker.

The Carolina Panthers announced Thursday that they re-signed kicker Eddy Pineiro to a two-year deal, ultimately spelling the end for Zane Gonzalez. The initial intent was to release Gonzalez, but instead, GM Scott Fitterer found a trade partner.

Friday, the Panthers traded Gonzalez to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2025 conditional late-round draft pick.

While kicking into the practice net on the sideline during a preseason, Gonzalez injured his groin and had to be carted off the field. He was placed on season-ending injured reserve, leading to Pineiro's signing. 

Pineiro ended the season by making each of his last 19 field goal attempts and went 33/35 on field goals and 30/32 on extra-point attempts on the year.
