Canales & Morgan Expected to 'Report Directly' to Tepper

There were mixed feelings amongst Panther fans on social media following the official announcement that Dave Canales would be the next head coach. Although some began to come around to the idea of it, many lost their faith and excitement when reading the following from the press release.

"As with (Dan) Morgan, Canales will report directly to owner David Tepper."

Tepper has been widely viewed around the league as an owner that is way too involved. With the most recent firings of Frank Reich and Scott Fitterer, one could have assumed this is the perfect opportunity for Tepper to finally take a step back and let the football people handle the football side of the business.

We'll be careful here because Tepper, Morgan, and Canales have yet to speak to the media directly about what the structure will look like and how the day-to-day/week-to-week operation will go. How deep does the "reporting to Tepper" go? Is it just on significant changes such as hiring coordinators, spending big money on a free agent, and making some sort of a big trade? Is it going to be every little thing that comes across the desk of the head coach and GM? Or will it be somewhere in between?

Considering Tepper hired a first-time GM AND head coach, I don't necessarily blame him for wanting to be in the know at the start. That said, there's got to be a fine line for the Panthers' owner. Should he cross it with regularity, it's hard to imagine a scenario where this GM/coach tandem produces a different result than what we've seen in years past.
