Panthers Cap Space Grows Following League-Wide Bump

Everybody loves the feeling when they reach into their jeans pocket and pull out a forgotten $20 bill. This afternoon, Dan Morgan likely opened his computer and saw a $30 million e-mail. Same vibes, right?

According to a notice sent by the NFL, the league's salary cap is rising to $255.4 million per team. The NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said this on X earlier today.

"The unprecedented $30M increase per club in this year’s Salary Cap is the result of the full repayment of all amounts advanced by the clubs and deferred by the players during the Covid pandemic as well as an extraordinary increase in media revenue for the 2024 season."

For the Panthers, that means more money to spend on free agents, whether it's retaining their homegrown talent (Brian Burns, Frankie Luvu, etc.), or signing players away from opposing franchises (Mike Evans, Calvin Ridley, etc.).

Finding Panthers: Wide Receiver Free Agent Targets

According to Over the Cap, Carolina has $40,169,402 of cap space to spend on players, good for 13th in the league. The league-wide $30 million bump grows the Panthers' effective spending cash by nearly $11.5 million.

For a team that lacks talent and a first-round pick, more money to spend in free agency to accrue talent is a godsend. Time will tell how Carolina spends their money, but for now, the brass on Mint Street is thankful to have some more wiggle room.
