Raiders vs. Steelers Official Live Game Thread

Sports Illustrated's Fan Nation, Raider Maven provides you the official Las Vegas Raiders versus the Pittsburgh Steelers game thread.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and the Las Vegas Raiders have a long-time rivalry that goes back decades. These two successful NFL franchises are firmly rooted in the foundation of America's most popular sports league.

Entering today's tilt in the battle-tested blue-collar town of Pittsburgh, these two undefeated teams look to a heavyweight bout that could foreshadow another meeting later this year in the post-season.

Remember the rule of five. If the Las Vegas Raiders win that key statistical battle, today's game is over. For those who don't remember it, it has to do with sacks and turnovers. If the Raiders have three sacks and give up two, that means they are plus one. If they then get four turnovers and give up only one, that means they are plus three. That would give them a plus-four for the day. They want to get to a plus-five ratio every game. Teams that reach the rule of five scenarios win 91 percent of their ball games on average.

HALFTIME UPDATE:

The Raiders are missing running back Josh Jacobs and it shows.

The ground game was slow to start with running back Kenyan Drake falling short on third and short. Throughout the first half, Drake never went on long power rushes and didn’t get the yardage needed on second, as well as third and short to help the offense keep moving.

To compare the two running backs active today, Drake had three carries for six yards while running back Peyton Barber had four carries for four yards.

Pretty much no ground game was present for the Silver and Black in the first half.

On the defensive side of things, cornerback Casey Hayward Jr. nearly picks off a pass early in the first quarter. The following quarter, he broke up a would-be touchdown pass to wide receiver Chase Claypool. Hayward had one solo tackle and two passes defended in the first half.

In the middle of the first quarter, a third and 10 by the Steelers was turned into an interception by Raiders’ cornerback Trayvon Mullen. Mullen’s interception set up a short field for the Silver and Black, resulting in a 46-yard field goal by placekicker Daniel Carlson.

While the Raiders did show some positive moments on both offense and defense, the Steelers' offense found their groove in the second quarter, working the ball down the field in a 75-yard drive in 7 players. It resulted in a Pittsburgh touchdown after a three-yard rush by wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster.

Penalties were also a storyline for the Silver and Black in the first half on both sides of the ball.

While the Las Vegas quickly went on to respond with a faster-paced offense on the air, throwing the ball to wide receiver Hunter Renfrow, Bryan Edwards, tight end Foster Moreau, Darren Waller, penalties kept hurting the Raiders.

The Silver and Black had to settle for a field goal before the end of the half.

The Raiders lead 9-7 at the half.
