In this story:

Las Vegas Raiders Interim Coach Antonio Pierce played with some great leaders throughout his nine-year NFL career.

Of course, on a Super Bowl roster like that of the 2007-08 New York Giants, that recipe will always be necessary.

With that considered, it's safe to say Pierce's perspective on strong leadership is credible.

"Obviously, I played with [Michael] Strahan and Bruce Smith and LaVar Arrington, Jessie Armstead -- those are some guys who could really talk and knew how to talk and get you going," Pierce told reporters on Friday. "Prime [Deion Sanders] as well. But I was pretty much self-motivated, but it was always good to see your leaders, your best football players, your captains, the guys in the trenches talk.

"That set the tone a little different."

Pierce, who himself is already a vocal presence for the Raiders, has the fortune of sharing that load with some of his team captains.

"We have that here," Pierce said. "I mean, it's amazing the amount of guys who speak up and talk to the team. And the things that they say; AP says it my way.

"Tae [Davante Adams] says it his way. Josh Jacobs says it his way. Spill [Robert Spillane] and Maxx [Crosby].

"So, for us to have that chemistry and also that ability to speak to one another and speak freely and to demand out of each other and demand from yourself and then showcase that, it's huge. That's accountability."

Pierce was a captain himself, on the Giants' Super Bowl XLII champions. He played five seasons at middle linebacker for New York, which followed four seasons with the Washington Redskins (now Commanders).

During his NFL career, he was selected to one Pro Bowl.

In total, Pierce recorded 691 combined tackles, 39 for losses, seven interceptions, nine sacks, 43 passes defensed and two touchdowns.

Pierce is 2-0 so far in his new role with Las Vegas.

The Silver and Black will head out on the road to South Beach to take on the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, Nov. 19, at 1 p.m. EST/10 a.m. PST.
