The Las Vegas Raiders have released quarterback Brian Hoyer, a move we have been reporting for weeks would eventually happen. NFL insider Adam Schefter was the first to report the official news.

The Raiders signed Hoyer in April 2023. Las Vegas was the eighth franchise the veteran had been a part of in his 15-year NFL career.

Serving primarily as the team's third option at quarterback last season, Hoyer played in only three games, starting in one. That start was against the Chicago Bears in Week 7 when the Raiders lost, 30-12, as Hoyer threw for 129 yards and was picked off twice.

Hoyer totaled only 231 passing yards in the 2023 season. His only strong performance when he stepped in for an injured Jimmy Garoppolo against his former team, the New England Patriots, finishing off a 21-17 victory that elevated the Raiders to .500 at the time.

The former Patriot joined the Raiders when they were led by Coach Josh McDaniels and General Manager Dave Ziegler, two figures he knew from his days in New England.

Hoyer entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan State in 2009. He began his career with the Patriots for three seasons before having stints with the Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, Chicago Bears, and San Francisco 49ers.

Then Hoyer returned to New England in the 2017 season, signed with the Indianapolis Colts for the 2019 season, and re-joined the Patriots for three more seasons before his one-year stint with Las Vegas.

The veteran quarterback has passedfor 10,899 yards and 53 touchdowns in his 79 career games, starting 41 of them.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
