Raiders Under Contract: WR DJ Turner
Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver DJ Turner is a player who has been on and off the team's practice squad over the last two seasons.
Turner has primarily served as a special teams asset. He saw only 21 defensive snaps in nine games in 2022 and 12 in 10 games this past season. He rushed for 26 yards in his first season and also added a total of 78 yards on four kick returns.
Most of those stats came in Turner's solid performance in the Raiders' victory over the Houston Texans in Week 7 of the 2022 season. He rushed for 20 yards, including an 18-yard run on Las Vegas' game-tying scoring drive before halftime. He also returned three kicks for 56 yards.
The Raiders signed Turner as an undrafted free agent in 2021 before he spent all of that season on the practice squad.
Turner has been a positive contributor on special teams for Las Vegas. This past season, he totaled 10 combined tackles and forced a fumble that he recovered in the Raiders' 63-21 rout of the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 15.
The 27-year-old wide receive4rhas one year remaining on his two-year, $1.8-million contract, meaning next season will be critical for his chance at a significant raise.
Turner will first have to make the roster, though, and for that to happen, he will have to prove that he has much more to offer than merely a special teams weapon.

Turner played four seasons for Maryland before transferring to Pittsburgh for his final college season in 2020. In that lone year with the Panthers, he totaled 634 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns and 311 yards on kick returns. Turner was named to the All-ACC First Team as a specialist.
From February 27 to March 4, 2024, the NFL Scouting Combine will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.
The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
