Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Tyree Wilson had a promising rookie season.

Despite having sustained a foot fracture that had him miss the final three games of his college career, the Raiders took their chances with the All-American defensive lineman and selected him with the seventh overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Las Vegas signed Wilson to a four-year, $25-million contract, with an average annual salary of $ 6.2 million, which made him the seventh highest-paid player on the roster. His deal included a fifth-year option.

Wilson's transition to the pros took some time, as the former Texas Tech Red Raider and Texas A&M Aggie missed rookie minicamp and much of training camp due to his foot injury, which he had surgery on in November of 2022. He was activated from the team's non-football injury list on Aug. 16.

Wilson got off to a slow start in the first six weeks of the season and saw a major decrease in snaps after Week 2, starting with a Week 3 game in which he took the field only 11 times.

The rookie would record his first career sack in the Raiders' Week 7 loss to the Chicago Bears.

Following Las Vegas' Week 13 bye week, the Raiders moved Wilson to the interior of the defensive line, which immediately proved effective when he posted four combined tackles, a sack and a tackle for a loss in Las Vegas' Week 14 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. The following week, he made a fumble recovery in the Raiders' 63-21 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.

Wilson finished strong with one last sack and four quarterback hits against the Denver Broncos in the season finale. He concluded his rookie season with 29 combined tackles, two for losses, eight quarterback hits, and 3.5 sacks.

With the guidance of great fellow edge rushers Maxx Crosby and Malcolm Koonce, the future could be very bright for the former first-round pick.

From February 27 to March 4, 2024, the NFL Scouting Combine will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
