Adams Becoming More Vocal in Second Season with Raiders

In this story:
The Las Vegas Raiders sent multiple draft picks to the Green Bay Packers in return for Davante Adams last season. They then rewarded him with a five-year, $141-million contract, confirming his status as a cornerstone of the organization.
Adams repaid the franchise by having one of the best seasons of his career. As has been the case throughout his career, Adams let his play do the talking for him during his first season with the Raiders.
However, part of his quick success with a new team last season was his willingness and ability to communicate with coaches what he saw on the field. He plans on doing more of the same this season.
"Last year, throughout games, we talked," Adams said. "I mean countless times. "I come back -- it's not even something that they want to listen to, they say: 'Hey, we need to hear that from you. Anything you feel out there."
For Adams, being able to voice his opinions to the coaching staff is a right that is earned, not given.
"Obviously, there's a scale as far as how much they trust certain people coming in with certain things," Adams said. "If you're a rookie, you can't walk in here and say: 'Hey Coach, I need to run this on that guy or whatever. We don't need to be in man on defense, like do this.'
"It comes with the reps and respect of understanding and obviously knowing that the guy knows what he's talking about. So, it's a two-way street, and I try not to come in with too much stuff that way."
Being one of the elder statesmen on the roster, Adams carefully chooses his words and timing. As a team leader, he understands there is such a thing as being too vocal.
"The person who is talking all the time, nobody really wants to hear him the same way," Adams said. "So, I try to be selective about the times I bring things to them, but they do a good job of applying it when it's time."
Adams has spoken more while communicating with coaches and even the Raiders' wide receiver room. The veteran receiver also makes his presence felt with Las Vegas' defense.
"I take just as much pride in helping Nate [Hobbs] as I do any of the other receivers," Adams said. "I mean, we're all one unit. We're doing this in camp all the time, but at the end of the day I want him to be able to cover the things that he's going to see on every Sunday."
Adams' willingness to share his knowledge with his teammates makes him valuable on and off the field. For a coaching staff and front office that values players who are tough, intelligent, and mature, Adams checks all three boxes.
The Silver and Black open the regular season at the Denver Broncos on Sunday, Sept. 10, at 4:25 p.m. EDT/1:25 p.m. PDT.
