The Las Vegas Raiders' addition of Jimmy Garoppolo was perhaps the biggest task to check off on their offseason to-do list.

Of course, there's no guarantee the veteran quarterback can be the hero and turn things around for the franchise, but the club is pleased and hopeful with who it has behind center.

Raiders General Manager Dave Ziegler spoke about what Garoppolo's addition means when he joined "Upon Further Review With Eddie Paskal" on Monday.

"If there's two important aspects of the quarterback position, it's someone that has, I'd say, a high level of leadership skills and someone that has been a proven winner," Ziegler said. "And that's what Jimmy's done over the course of his career. He's a guy that we have some background with. We also have done a lot of research on Jimmy since he was with us in New England during his time in San Francisco.

"And the two things that you get when you talk to people that have been around Jimmy is that Jimmy has a way about him from a leadership standpoint or the locker room, and Jimmy has a lot of belief from the team as a quarterback because he's won a lot of football games. And those are two highly important characteristics when you're talking about any quarterback, and those are two things that Jimmy has embodied over the course of his career."

Ziegler said the Raiders feel a sense of relief heading into the 2023 NFL Draft, knowing they have their QB1.

"Having a level of, I'd say, stability or comfort with who you have at the starting quarterback position going in -- in the offseason -- going into a new season, there's a level of comfort with that," Ziegler said. "So we feel good about that. And in terms of the draft, going in, it's -- again, I think any time, whether it's the quarterback position or whether it's any other position, when you do not feel that you have to make a play at a position, it holds you back from, I think, overreaching, convincing yourself that something is worth taking at that point when maybe it's not, and you can start to overreach in those situations and those circumstances. And so, we have that going into the draft with the quarterback position."

The 2023 NFL Draft will go from April 27-29 and be held at Union Station in Kansas City, Mo. The 2023 NFL Year and Free Agency period began at 4 p.m. EDT on March 15.

The Raiders are expected to be significant players in the free-agent market this offseason.
