QB Minshew Faced Raiders in Final Game in Oakland

New Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Gardner Minshew and the Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the Raiders, 20-16, in their final game at the Oakland Coliseum in 2019.

New Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Gardner Minshew only faced his new team twice in his first five NFL seasons, but both games left the team with heartbreak.

Most recently, it was Las Vegas' narrow loss to Minshew and the Indianapolis Colts last season when they were officially put out of playoff contention.

The first dates back to Minshew's rookie season in 2019, when he and the Jacksonville Jaguars handed the Raiders a sour goodbye in their final game at the Oakland Coliseum.

"I haven't forgot it, that's for sure," Minshew said of that 2019 game when he addressed the media at his introductory press conference Thursday. "I had a couple people talk about it. One of the coolest games of my life -- last game in Oakland Coliseum, putting a lot of sad faces on the home fans there."

Jacksonville was down, 16-6, going into the fourth quarter, but two touchdown passes thrown by Minshew down the stretch sealed the victory for the visiting Jaguars.

"It was unbelievable how it went from here [hand up high] to touchdown with 30 seconds left, to here [hand down low]. ... It was amazing, man. You feel the passion of the fan base, people that really care about it.

"You feel the tradition, and that's something I'm excited to be on the other side of, now.

Minshew spent one more season in Jacksonville before he was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles. He joined the Colts in free agency last offseason after two years in Philadelphia.

The 27-year-old quarterback has posted 9,937 passing yards and 59 touchdowns, 621 rushing yards, and five rushing touchdowns in 49 games.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
