New Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo are each former New England Patriots, but were with the club at different times.

This fall, they will take the field as teammates for the first time, an opportunity Meyers considered when he came to Las Vegas.

Meyers said at his introductory press conference on Thursday that the appeal of playing with wide receiver Davante Adams was a big part in his decision, but there were other offensive weapons he was intrigued by as well.

You've got Hunter [Renfrow], you've got Josh Jacobs, Jimmy G [Garoppolo]," Meyers said. "It's a bunch of guys on the offensive side of the ball that I was really excited [about]. But just him [Adams], he's a great player, and I feel like that gives me something to look forward to as far as the next level of my game. So just to come in here and just see what greatness looks like honestly and how I can just add that to my game, it was a no-brainer."

Meyers, of course, has seen what Garoppolo is capable of as an opponent, but it's the quarterback's demeanor that especially caught his attention.

"I feel like there probably aren't not too many players in the league who don't know who Jimmy G [Garoppolo] is, right?" Meyers said. "And then he played as a Patriot, so I know who he is, I heard a lot about him. I heard about personality honestly, and I feel like that's probably the easiest thing, just a guy who's cool, calm, collected. Because I've seen him have good days, bad days, but I've always seen him with the same smile on his face. So, take away the X's and O's and the talent, I feel like that alone will be fun to play with."

The 2023 NFL Draft will go from April 27-29 and be held at Union Station in Kansas City, Mo. The 2023 NFL Year and Free Agency period began at 4 p.m. EDT on March 15

The Raiders are expected to be significant players in the free-agent market this season.
