Jimmy Garoppolo Focused on Turning It Around

The Las Vegas Raiders' offense has been unable to get out of their way at times this season. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is ready for the opportunity to right the ship.

The Las Vegas Raiders' offense hasn't had nearly the success they had hoped for when the season began. While there are many reasons for that being the case, most of those reasons are in control of the offense itself.

Most of the success and failure of this offense will depend on how well the offense can plan for and execute against its opponents, especially over the next few weeks, which present a couple of very winnable games for the Raiders.

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo shared his mindset with his teammates on correcting the mistakes they have made over the first few weeks of the season.

"It's not the easiest thing in the world, but just making the practice execution becomes game reality and that's what we're trying to do, and it's going to happen here," Garoppolo said.

"Just the guys’ mindset, I think. I think that sort of starts with just guys having the right mindset out here at practice, and then just transferring it over the game."

An offense that lacks offensive weapons or an offensive-minded coach would be excused for the play the Raiders offense has shown through four games this season.

However, the Raiders have one of the deepest wide receiver corps in the National Football League and an offensive mind well-respected around the league calling the plays.

Not to mention one of the highest offensive payrolls in the National Football League.

The Raiders have yet to show the expected results when the season began. Las Vegas is one of three teams that have yet to score 20 points in a game his season.

Garoppolo feels the offense is close to turning the corner.

"We're getting there," Garoppolo said. "Every day, it's what we're trying to do. We have to take care of the ball, starting with myself. I think that's where it all starts. But after that it's just about making plays, letting the guys --– we've got play-makers all over the field, I just have to get them the rock."

First and foremost, the Raiders have to stop turning the ball over. Las Vegas has 10 turnovers in four games. While there is plenty of blame for the turnover woes, Garoppolo is doing what he can to solve the issue.

"I think every one [turnovers] is a little different, Garoppolo said. "None of them are good, obviously. But you just have to be smart, I have to be smart with it.

"Just, if the play's not there, be willing to throw it away, move on to the next play, things like that. Just living to fight another down, really. But it's football -- stuff's going to happen, and we have to react to it."

Jimmy G is correct, it is football, and stuff does happen, but sitting at 1-3 and playing on Monday Night Football, another subpar showing from the offense could lead to more significant issues and more challenging conversations in the near future.

The Silver and Black return home to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas next week to play the Green Bay Packers on Monday, Oct. 9, at 8:15 p.m. EDT/5:15 p.m. PDT.
