The Las Vegas Raiders added a new piece to a position group that should be a point of emphasis this offseason.

The Raiders signed veteran defensive tackle John Jenkins, the club announced Friday.

Jenkins joins the Raiders as an unrestricted free agent.

Alain Poupart of Sports Illustrated FanNation's All Dolphins wrote the following about Jenkins, a former Miami Dolphin:

"After first joining the Dolphins just before the start of the 2019 season, Jenkins returned as a free agent in the first week of April 2021 after spending one season with the Chicago Bears, then re-signed as a free agent with the Dolphins in the first week of April 2022.

"While he was a part-time player the past two years after starting five games for the rebooting Dolphins in 2019, Jenkins was a solid complementary player on the defensive line, particularly as a run stopper, and a good veteran presence in the locker room."

Jenkins was selected in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints.

While playing three-plus seasons in New Orleans, Jenkins totaled 100 tackles, 1.5 sacks, two passes defensed, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery in 49 games (22 starts).

Jenkins was released by the Saints in November of 2016 and was signed by the Seattle Seahawks soon after.

The veteran then had one-year stints with the Chicago Bears, New York Giants, and Dolphins before his second stints with Chicago and Miami.

Jenkins has registered 212 tackles with eight for losses, 2.5 sacks, four passes defensed, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery in the 116 games he's played in 11 NFL seasons.

In addition, he has also posted eight tackles, a sack, and a fumble recovery in five playoff games.

Jenkins played college ball at Georgia, where he was named second-team All-SEC as a senior.

The 2023 NFL Draft will go from April 27-29 and be held at Union Station in Kansas City, Mo. The 2023 NFL Year and Free Agency period began at 4 p.m. EDT on March 15.

The Raiders are expected to be significant players in the free-agent market this season.
