Raiders' Josh McDaniels on Adding RB Damien Williams

In this story:
The Las Vegas Raiders brought in another veteran running back on Friday when they signed Damien Williams.
Williams, who won a Super Bowl as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs, will be playing for his fifth team in nine years.
The signing comes shortly after running back Austin Walter was placed on the injured/reserve list.
Raiders Coach Josh McDaniels confirmed that Williams' addition was -- as could have been assumed -- for insurance purposes when he addressed the media after Friday's practice.
The club did, however, already have the free agent on its radar.
"Yeah, we had a couple of guys that got nicked a little bit," McDaniels said. "So, we're just getting ready to go into a preseason game where there's four quarters regardless of whether you want them or need them or run out of players. And so, Damien is a guy we worked out earlier in training camp. He was in shape. He's had a productive career. He's a good football player, he's smart, he's tough. And so, we were interested in him honestly before that.
"But when you start to get a little low at a number here and you've got to play a game, and really, we're going to play two in six days, along with another two competitive practices. So, just trying to make sure that at each spot we can, we're kind of as healthy as we can be going into this stretch of days, which is going to be an important one.”
Williams came into the league as an undrafted free agent from Oklahoma in 2014. He spent four seasons with the Miami Dolphins, followed by two with the Chiefs, with whom he was a significant factor in their Super Bowl LIV title.
The veteran then had a one year stint with the Chicago Bears before another one year with the Atlanta Falcons last season.
Unfortunately for Williams, he went down in Week 1 because of a rib injury and wouldn't see the field the rest of the season, eventually being released by the Falcons last December.
The Silver and Black open the preseason by hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m. EDT/1 p.m. PDT.
