Raiders Waiting to Find Out Status of Jimmy Garoppolo

The Las Vegas Raiders enter this week of practice still waiting to find out the status of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo's health.

The Las Vegas Raiders are 3-4 and will face a Detroit Lions team coming off only their second season loss on Monday Night Football.

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo missed Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears because of a back injury he sustained the previous week against the New England Patriots.

While Garoppolo suffered no significant damage to his back, he still has yet to be medically cleared to return. The Raiders hope to hear about his status soon.

"That's a medical thing," Raiders Coach Josh McDaniels said. "Honestly, I wouldn't be able to put a percentage on that. I know he's doing well, but that's something that they will let us know exactly when we're able to turn the corner. I'm hoping for this week, but I don't have clarification on that yet."

McDaniels said after the game on Sunday: "If he's healthy, yes, he'll play."

It will be necessary for the Raiders to get a productive week of practice from Garoppolo, Brian Hoyer, and Aidan O'Connell if they hope to have a better offensive performance on Monday night.

"It's not one thing," McDaniels said. "We moved the ball, and then we get bogged down with something, either miss a third-and-short, or there's a penalty here or there.

"Yesterday, we had a couple penalties and just didn't do very well on third downs in the first two and a half, three quarters of the game. And there are a lot of little things that go into those plays."

Garoppolo's injuries have left the Raiders' quarterback position in limbo. Solidifying the quarterback position with Garoppolo or someone else could help Las Vegas' offense with some communication and execution issues they have been having.

"A football game can be changed by the execution of four or five different plays," McDaniels said. "Pick any four or five different plays, and you say: 'Man if we would have made this, if we would have made that.

"So, whether it's a call you want to choose differently, or an execution of a play, or an assignment, or whatever it might be, at the end of the day, we need to put together a performance that's representative of what we think we can be.

"We're searching for that and there's no shortcut to it. I think we have got to have 11 guys on every play trying to do the right thing, which I think we do. We've got to have more execution on a consistent basis against good teams. That's what it's going to require of us."

Monday night will be one of the most challenging battles the Raiders will face all season. Las Vegas must be ready to go, with or without Garoppolo.

The Silver and Black will stay on the road to take on the Detroit Lions on Monday night, Oct. 30, at 8:15 p.m. EDT/5:15 p.m. PDT.
