Raiders Antonio Pierce on QB Patrick Mahomes

In this story:
The Las Vegas Raiders will again go head-to-head with a very high-powered offense in the Kansas City Chiefs in today's Week 12 AFC West divisional game.
Starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes is the leader of the Chiefs' high powered offense. Today's game will be Mahomes' 11th career game against the Silver in Black.
Mahomes has a passer rating of 112.5 with 3,040 yards, 27 touchdowns and three interceptions in 10 games versus the Raiders in his career, with a 9-1 record.
The last time the Raiders beat the Chiefs was in Week 5 of the 2020 NFL season.
Raiders Interim Coach Antonio Pierce had the opportunity to share his thoughts on Mahomes with the media this week.
"I think the most dangerous thing you see with him is when he steps up in the pocket and then he veers either right or left and now he's going parallel to the line of scrimmage, so you're kind of in no man's land if you're in coverage," Pierce said. "You can't come away from the nearest receiver, got to plaster, then you can't pull up on the quarterback.
"The coverage has to match up with the rush, the rush has to match up with the coverage, and guys have got to do their job."
Pierce also spoke on the Chiefs' high-powered offense and what the game plan is for stopping them on defense.
"We've just got to get better each and every day, each game," Pierce said Friday. "It was a good challenge last week against the Dolphins with their speed. Obviously you're dealing with the ultimate chess master here in Andy Reid, and Patrick Mahomes, so we've got to be on our P's and Q's. We don't want to crown ourselves too soon."
The Raiders look to go 6-6 and get back to .500 again this season with an upset victory over the Chiefs today at Allegiant Stadium.
The Silver and Black will return home this week to celebrate Thanksgiving and take on their AFC West rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs, on Sunday, November 26, at 4:25 p.m. EST/1:25 p.m. PST.
