Scangarello Front Runner to Become Raiders QBs Coach

The Las Vegas Raiders are searching for their next quarterback coach, and it has been reported that the team has narrowed down its options to a few remaining choices.

According to ESPN Senior NFL Reporter Jeremy Fowler, Rich Scangarello is considered the leading candidate to become the Raiders' next quarterbacks coach.

"Rich Scangarello considered the front runner for Raiders quarterbacks coaching job, per sources," Fowler said. "He was in the building this week, and a deal could happen."

Scangarello has a unique coaching track record that spans decades. He started coaching in 1998 as a graduate assistant at the University of California-Davis.

In addition, Scangarello served as a graduate assistant at Idaho in 2000. and then became the offensive coordinator at Carleton University.

In 2002, Scangarello returned to UC Davis as quarterbacks coach. In 2004, he transitioned to the wide receivers coach for UC Davis before becoming their co-offensive coordinator in 2008.

In 2009, Scangarello joined the Oakland Raiders as an offensive quality coach for the season. He spen the next five seasons in various coaching positions outside of the NFL before joining the Atlanta Falcons in 2015 as their offensive quality control coach.

In 2017, Scangarello became the quarterbacks coach of the San Francisco 49ers and later wa the Denver Broncos' offensive coordinator. He was fired after a subpar season from the Broncos' offense, which was one of the worst in the league.

After spending a season with the Philadelphia Eagles as their senior offensive assistant, Scangarello returned to the 49ers in 2021, before accepting the offensive coordinator position Kentucky, but was fired after one season.

With the expected addition of Scangarello as their quarterbacks coach and the hiring Luke Getsy as their offensive coordinator, the Raiders continue to add many years' worth of coaching experience on various levels to their coaching staff.

From February 27 to March 4, 2024, the NFL Scouting Combine will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
