Rookie wide receiver Henry Ruggs III of the Las Vegas Raiders still has a ways to go.

The 2020 first-round pick from Alabama has played four of the six games so far this season, missing a couple of games due to injury.

Ruggs has caught the ball a total of eight times this season for a total of 212 yards.

On the positive, Ruggs is averaging 26.5 yards per reception with one touchdown.

With 10 games left in the regular season, Ruggs should be catching more passes than what he has on his stat sheet thus far.

Ruggs has struggled to beat the one-on-one coverage during his short time in the NFL.

It was no different against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

"We tried ... but give Tampa Bay credit," said Head coach Jon Gruden on Monday. "They covered Ruggs III and a few times they covered him like a blanket. So Ruggs has to beat one-on-one coverage.

"Certainly, we have to diagram more plays to get him the ball, but when it is one-on-one we need him to win. He knows that. We know that. We're going to continue to work him in our offense. He's still a young player."

Luckily for Ruggs, he’s working under a head coach who knows that he has growing to do.

Gruden himself said the reason Ruggs hasn’t caught more football is partially his fault.

As Ruggs gains more experience on the field learns to beat one-on-one coverage, combined with plays drawn up for Ruggs to be the primary target, he should have the necessary tools to become one of the best wide receivers in the league.
