After missing Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears with a back injury, Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo returned to the practice field, as the Silver and Black prepare for the Detroit Lions.

"He'll be out there," Raiders Coach Josh McDaniels said before practice.

Barring any potential setbacks this week, McDaniels expects Garoppolo to play Monday night in Detroit.

"Hopeful. Yeah, as long we don't have anything that goes the other way. We're very hopeful that'll be the case."

Garoppolo returns to lead an offense that has struggled through the first seven games of this season. After missing two games, Garoppolo is currently tied for the most interceptions in the league and has more interceptions than touchdowns.

The veteran quarterback will try to get on track against a stout Lions defense which boasts one of the best defensive linemen in the National Football League.

"The [Lions'] defense, a very good rush. [Aidan] Hutchinson's is a really good player, great effort," McDaniels said. "Their front I think doesn't get enough credit, there's a lot of guys that are disruptive."

"Two linebackers, two safeties are their top tacklers, and they do a good job of flying to the ball. You can see the way that they play and they're very opportunistic. They get their hands on a lot of footballs, a lot of PBU's, a lot of opportunities for turnovers that they create."

Considering the Raiders' weapons on offense, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of Detroit's defense, Monday night could be a good time for Las Vegas' offense to try some new things, specifically through the air.

In his first game back, Garoppolo will be facing the second-best defense in the NFL against the run, but Detroit only ranks 23rd in the NFL against the pass. Quick, successful passes could help negate a fierce pass rush and open up more running lanes for Las Vegas.

Garoppolo's play this season has rightfully been under a microscope. It will be up to him and the Raiders' offense to snap out of the rut they have collectively been in this season.

If Las Vegas' offensive line can protect Garoppolo and he can successfully make the necessary plays, the Raiders will have a shot to pull off the upset in Detroit.

The Silver and Black will stay on the road to take on the Detroit Lions on Monday night, Oct. 30, at 8:15 p.m. EDT/5:15 p.m. PDT.
