Cowboys Not Expected to Re-Sign Tackle Tyron Smith; Rams Free Agency Fit?

The Los Angeles Rams will need some help along the offensive line, and veteran Dallas Cowboys star Tyron Smith - one of the best in the business - looks set to become a free agent this offseason.

With an abundance of moving parts and in need of some upgrades, the Los Angeles Rams are looking to reload their offensive line this offseason.

And as of Saturday, one of the best offensive linemen in the modern era of the NFL seems to be becoming available, with the Dallas Cowboys reportedly unlikely to re-sign veteran left tackle and future Hall of Famer Tyron Smith.

So could the Rams get involved? On paper, it would certainly be a fit - albeit one that would come with a caveat or two.

Tyron Smith

Smith protected Dak Prescott's blindside with All-Pro authority throughout the few seasons, but given his age and injury history, maybe expecting Tyron to be able to play a full season plus playoffs seems like a bridge too far.

"Tyron Wednesdays" became a theme for Dallas this season as the veteran would often rest in the middle of the week as he was constantly dealing with niggling injuries.

That said, when he was on the field, everything seemed to flow as he only allowed one sack from 847 offensive snaps played and had an overall grading of 83.8 per PFF. That'll work.

Meanwhile, the Rams are in the midst of trying to rebuild their offensive line, with center Brian Allen already cut, starting left tackle Alaric Jackson becoming a restricted free agent and guard Kevin Dotson hitting the market as an unrestricted free agent.

In other words, Smith could slide right in and fill the spot potentially left by Jackson, and start immediately.

Currently, Spotrac estimates Tyron's market value as being a one-year deal worth $7.4 million.

And with more than $40 million in cap room, the Rams can easily manage that.
