Are Rams and Allen Robinson Stuck With Each Other?

Los Angeles Rams receiver Allen Robinson is looking to rebound from a career-worst 2022 season, but L.A. wants that done elsewhere. Will a trade eventually take shape?

The Los Angeles Rams are seeking deep to move on from Allen Robinson to no avail. Potential trade partners are hard to come by, and it may be for more reasons than one.

Turf Show Times contextualized Robinson's contract situation and why it may be a major hindrance in the grand scheme of things:

"Robinson, who turns 30 in August, is due a $10 million fully guaranteed salary in 2023. He was already paid a $5.25 million roster bonus two weeks ago, money that was also guaranteed to him. L.A. paid that, knowing they had no other choice, but it has yet to clear a hurdle that will send Robinson to another team for basically any draft pick or draft pick swap or towel rack.

At this point, trading Robinson would save the Rams $6.85 million against the 2023 salary cap. However, it is apparent that dealing Robinson must come with an agreement for L.A. to pay a large chunk of that salary, so we don’t know yet what the real savings could be. The hard truth to swallow is that the NFL may not even see Robinson as being a $3 million receiver, let alone a $10 million one."

Reaching the 30-year mark does not help Robinson's case. Doing so on the heels of the worst season of his career puts him in a precarious situation. Factoring in a salary that, even if partially paid off by L.A., adds much to a team's books makes a desired split all the more difficult to achieve.

Robinson is not too far removed from a 2020 season that saw him go for 102 receptions and 1250 receiving yards. It seems to be so due to missed time over the last two years and diminished productivity as a result.

The gifted receiver will be welcomed back with joy, supposedly, as coach Sean McVay recently said that the team would be 'excited' to have him return but 'wish him the best' should he leave. The vehemency of Rams management's bid to move the former Pro-Bowler questions the former of the notion.

Teams such as the New York Giants, Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans were among the worst receiving corps in the league last season and have not seemed to fully rebound from the star departures of Odell Beckham Jr., AJ Brown and DeAndre Hopkins.

While his days as a No. 1 may be over, Robinson still possesses immense talent that could bolster a team's offensive attack, should he remain healthy throughout 2023.
