Rams Legend Kurt Warner Endorses Torry Holt For NFL Hall of Fame

Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner clamors for receiver Torry Holt, his St. Louis Rams teammate, to get a gold jacket

Former St. Louis Rams receiver Torry Holt was one of the best of his era and one of the hallmarks of the Greatest Show on Turf. However, he has yet to receive a Pro Football Hall of Fame invitation after nearly a decade of eligibility.

Holt spent 10 seasons with the Rams and played the last year of his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Over his career, he racked up 13,382 yards and 74 touchdowns on 920 receptions. He made seven Pro Bowls, had eight straight seasons with over 1,000 yards and helped the Rams win Super Bowl XXXIV as a rookie in 1999. Despite all of that, he is still waiting on his gold jacket.

To Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner, Holt's teammate in St. Louis, that's outrageous. Warner has repeatedly pushed for his former teammate to make the Hall of Fame, and he took to Twitter on Monday to make another plea.

"Ridiculous he doesn’t have a Gold Jacket already… I’ve been dumbfounded for years bc of stats like this AND he shared the ball with 2 other HOFs who needed their touches!!! #WayOverDue," Warner wrote.

The other Hall of Famers Warner mentioned were running back Marshall Faulk and receiver Isaac Bruce, who received their gold jackets in 2011 and 2020, respectively. Together, these four players formed one of the most electric offenses in NFL history, yet Holt is the odd man out for some reason.

Warner tweeted in response to a screenshot from a Sports Illustrated article that made the case for Holt as a Hall of Famer.

"Holt has a solid case for Canton," Sports Illustrated writes. "No player in NFL history has strung together more 1,300-yard seasons consecutively (six) than Holt. Only Jerry Rice has more consecutive 1,100-yard seasons (nine to eight).

"He has a Super Bowl ring. He was a member of the revolutionary Greatest Show on Turf. In 11 seasons he went to seven Pro Bowls, made two All-Pro teams and led the league in receiving yards twice. Holt was one of four receivers named to the 2000s All-Decade Team, and he’s the only one of that quartet to not be in the Hall despite being a semifinalist the last five years."

Holt may still be pushing for a gold jacket after all this time, but at least he knows his old quarterback will always be in his corner.
