Watch: Rams to Release Limited Amount of Legend Kenny Washington Throwback Jerseys

In this story:
Back in 1946, the Los Angeles Rams signed Kenny Washington, and that was a key part of reintegrating the NFL.
Fritz Pollard was the first African-American to play in the NFL back in 1920. But after Pollard left the NFL in 1926, owners imposed a “gentleman’s agreement” preventing the signing of more black players.
But in 1946, the Rams moved to Los Angeles, and they wanted to play their home games in the publicly owned Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. And since African-American taxpayers owned a part of that stadium, the team decided to sign Washington, reintegrating the NFL.
To commemorate this historic moment, the Rams announced on Tuesday that they plan to release a limited amount of his jerseys to fans, which are set to go on sale February 16.
They did so in a video narrated by rapper D Smoke that went back through the history of all the great Rams running backs until they got to Washington.

He played just three seasons for the Rams, as he was signed when he was already 27 years old. But in his brief time with the team, he left his mark and was one of the best running backs in the league.

Prior to his first season, Washington had surgery on both of his knees, but that didn't stop him from leading the NFL in yards per carry in just his second season. The Hall of Fame running back also still owns the longest rush in Rams franchise history with a 92-yard run that he took to the house.
The Rams releasing Washington's jersey will let more people know about his greatness as well as the impact that he had on the team. But not only did Washington have an impact on the Rams, but also the entire NFL, as the league might not be the same today if he had not stepped on that field for Los Angeles.
