NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans' roster isn't considered one of the best in the NFL, but when you look at the top of the roster, the Titans definitely have some talent to be excited about. Despite that, the Titans top five players ranked 22nd in the NFL according to ESPN and tied for the oldest average age of their "core players" in the league.

ESPN's Seth Walder recently ranked NFL team's by who had the best core of players and this is what Walder had to say about his ranking of the Titans as a bottom-11 group in the NFL.

"The Titans' core is better than their actual roster, which looks bleak on offense. But you can do a lot worse than Tannehill at quarterback. His 49 QBR last year is partially due to having little help at receiver or along the offensive line. And even though Henry's play has fallen off, he still remains an asset. Simmons, Byard and Landry are all valuable defensive players, too. The biggest question is how long all these players will remain on the roster."

There is an argument to be made that second-year wide receiver Treylon Burks could take Landry's spot in this top five by season's end, but that is obviously a projection. It's hard to argue with the group Walder went with. The real thing that sticks out as an issue is the average age of the group the Titans have.

The Titans, who have a low over/under of only 7.5 wins according to the odds on Fanduel, tied with the Buffalo Bills for the oldest average of your core in the NFL at 29.4 years old. While purely conjecture, it seems obvious the Bills are set up for a title run more than the Titans. To have such an old core and such a poor roster around them makes things tough for the Titans, who finished 7-10 a year ago with seven losses to end the season.

It goes to show how tough of a spot this team was in when they made the change at general manager and hire Ran Carthon. Devoid of top talent at some key spots and lacking depth all over. The Titans have done what they can to improve the team and will continue to try, but it was an uphill battle to climb for Carthon in year one.
