NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans roster has two major issues as it heads into the 2023 season. Not only is the roster missing the top talent you need in the NFL due to multiple whiffs on first-round picks over the last few years, but it also lacks solid depth at key positions like offensive line and wide receiver.

However, there still are some stars on the Titans roster and those names popped up when Trevor Sikkema of Pro Football Focus made a list of every NFL team's top three players. The picks for the Titans are no surprise. The players listed were Jeffery Simmons, Derrick Henry and Kevin Byard.

Sikkema explained his choices for the Titans as well.

"It’s an old-school identity for the Titans’ top three, as they boast two players on defense (could've been a third) with one of the best running backs in football as the other. Simmons’ 79.3 pass-rush grade was the best figure yet in his career. Meanwhile, it was another season with an 80.0-plus coverage grade for Byard on the back end. As for Henry, it felt like a down year for him, but it wasn’t at all. He still rushed for more than 1,500 yards with 72 missed tackles forced, which was nearly a career high."

Sikkema said he also considered Harold Landry and based on his explanation it sounds like that could have been in place of Henry, surprisingly enough. With Landry coming off an ACL tear though, you can see why Sikkema went the other direction. Smartly so.

In today's NFL, having a running back and a safety as two of your top three players is tough to overcome. It is more likely to succeed if one of those players is a quarterback, edge or wide receiver. Alas, that is not the type of team the Titans want to build and we will see if they are proven right for that theory.
