NASHVILLE - If Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel had any concerns last week during the team's organized team activities that Kevin Byard would be in attendance for the mandatory minicamp, it didn't show.

On Thursday, in a bit of a shift, Vrabel spoke with the media prior to the practice, knowing that Byard would be joining those same media members following the session. One of the things Vrabel talked about in his answers was professionalism.

"That's a professional, Jimmy (Wyatt), I mean, you've been around this game a lotta years, and that's what professionals do whether they're here or they're not; they're a professional athlete, and they're expected to be in shape," said Vrabel. "They're expected to be prepared for the season (and)to perform."

"That's what I used those guys as an example yesterday. Denico (Autry) and Kevin (Byard) showed up for the mandatory minicamp. They've obviously been working, ready to go, lots of energy, and picked up where they left off, and so that's the expectation for everybody, whether they're here or not."

This is not the first, nor likely the last, we'll hear Vrabel take about being a professional, as it is something he has preached since taking over as the head coach for the Titans.

It is one of the biggest aspects of a professional football team or any organization that hopes to be successful.

While nothing is perfect, when you have people who pride themselves in being professionals in every aspect, it makes the job of a head coach or executive easier.

Players like Byard, Autry, Ryan Tannehill, and those who have gone before who set the standard and expectations for others to follow build the culture that Vrabel preaches.

Now it's up to the rest of this roster to reach the level of the leaders of this team, and if they can so that, this team could exceed expectations this season.
