Tennessee Titans Tease Oilers Throwback Jerseys as Reveal Date Approaches

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans have been the talk of the NFL this weekend after it was reported that they would be signing DeAndre Hopkins, but the excitement doesn't stop there as the Titans plan to reveal their Houston Oilers throwback jerseys this weekend.

The Titans' social media kept that excitement going on Wednesday morning when they released a hype video for the jersey reveal on social media. The video features a current Titans jersey with slick, black oil being poured all over it.

The nature of the video has led to rampant speculation as to what the jerseys could actually look like. Will the Titans choose to modernize the throwbacks in some way or make a slight design change? Some are even wondering if the throwbacks could be black due to the prevalence of black in the video.

However, that seems all far-fetched. Oil is black. The smart thing to do here is just take the video at face value. The Titans are "oiler-fying" the current jerseys. The oil being poured is just a simple of the throwbacks taking over, not a sign of some design change.

The Houston Oilers throwback jerseys are some of the most well-liked in the NFL whether by Titans fans or the collective NFL ecosystem. It would be ill-advised to alter the classic look to a modern version. Stick with what works and what has worked when you do throwbacks.

We did get some additional information on the throwback jerseys and how often we will see them from Titans' team writer Jim Wyatt yesterday. It seems they won't be worn as often as some originally thought, but the excitement for them is still real regardless of how many times we will see them in action.

The Titans had announced previously they intend to debut the jerseys on July 23.
