The Titans Only Goal For Last Week of OTAs is Stay Healthy

In this story:
NASHVILLE — As the Tennessee Titans wrap up the summer workout schedule this week the conversation will surely be about the performance of the players, how certain roster battles are shaping up or who was in attendance, but in reality the only thing that matters is staying healthy as a team.
All of the factors that will impact this season for the Titans have been discussed. The new offense working out or the offensive line being improved. On the other side of the ball it's all about the pass rush getting back to elite status or the defensive backs improving. All valid things to discuss.
However, none of them will matter if the Titans have the rash of injuries they had the past two seasons. None of the player development or changes made to the front office will make a dent in the outcome if the Titans are historically injured again.
In 2021, the Titans led the NFL and set a league record with 91 players on the roster throughout the year. In 2022, the Titans led the NFL in the number of players who made an appearance on the injured reserve list with 34. If anything close to these numbers happens again, none of the talks matter.
So, while it would be nice to hear about some long completions from the quarterbacks or the defense creating more turnovers than a bakery, the truth here is nothing matters except health. The Titans are a practice or two away from the long break before camp, a major injury now would be incredibly deflating.
Training camp is much more intense than OTAs and needs to be. With that intensity and the addition of full pads, injury are bound to happen. The injury rate in football is 100%. What would be the best outcome for the Titans as the week comes to a close is just to make it to training camp with a healthy group of players.
