NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans' ears should have perked up the moment DeAndre Hopkins was released from the Arizona Cardinals. The Titans' receiver room is severely lacking NFL-level talent and adding Hopkins could be a game changer. However, according to Draft Kings, the Titans' odds to sign Hopkins are very low.

Hop Odds

Out of the 20 teams listed, the Titans are tied for the lowest possible odds at +3500. Considering how badly the Titans could use Hopkins, that is discouraging. it does make sense though. Hopkins is most likely focused on winning at the highest level at this point in his career. The Titans may not represent his best chances to do so.

I dove into the reasons why Hopkins most likely won't consider the Titans an option here. Hopkins recently listed a sort of criteria which included stable management, good quarterback and great defense. While you could argue the Titans check those boxes from a certain viewpoint, there are clearly ways of looking at those questions which result in the Titans checking none of the boxes.

If you are Hopkins, the path that makes the most sense is to bunk up with an elite quarterback on a perennial Super Bowl contender. Teams that you see at the top of the list like the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Titans may be able to pull some magic. Hopkins could get as many targets as he wanted in Tennessee. If the Titans see some improved offensive line play, Ryan Tannehill could reasonably play well enough to get Hopkins the production he is hoping for.

Also, it must be stated that the Titans play in a state with no income tax. While that will only affect the seven home games the Titans play in 2023, it is still something. Hopkins has a relationship with Titans' head coach Mike Vrabel and new offensive coordinator Tim Kelly from their Houston days together, but we don't know how those relationships were.

So, at the end of the day, whether it be our own logic or the betting odds, the Titans are longshots to land Hopkins.
