NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans' quarterback situation has been discussed at length so far this offseason. Whether it be talks about moving on from Ryan Tannehill, to debates on the future of Will Levis or discussing Malik Willis's future, the quarterback spot has been in the spotlight.

However, Ryan Tannehill remains. Despite back-to-back drafts where the Titans have taken a passer in the top three rounds, Tannehill is still entrenched as the starter. While the Titans may be best served to go young this year, going with Tannehill ensures they know what they are getting out of the quarterback spot.

According to Sam Monson from Pro Football Focus, what the Titans know they are getting in Tannehill is a top ten quarterback in the AFC. Out of 15 projected starters, Tannehill ranks tenth in the conference according to Monson. The ranking, as all rankings, is up for debate.

If you go simply off performance in 2022, you could see why a player like Tua Tagovailoa would be ranked ahead of Tannehill, but applying that same logic would make it illogical to have Deshaun Watson ahead of Tannehill. Watson played very poorly in his limited games last year returning from a suspension.

In fairness to Monson, Tannehill had his moments of poor play last season as well even taking into account the poor supporting cast. Even acknowledging that though, Tannehill had very little help from any aspect of the offense in 2022.

Todd Downing, now fired offensive coordinator, was ridiculously conservative and predictable. The offense line plummeted into the worst group in the league by season's end and the wide receiver group was pedestrian at best.

Not much has changed on the wide receiver front, but the Titans have attempted to improve the offensive line and offensive coaching. These changes could be for not, but if they work out we could see a much-improved Tannehill. If that is the case, the Titans should expect better than tenth-best AFC quarterback play.
