NASHVILLE — No one is expecting Malik Willis to compete with Ryan Tannehill for the starting job this year, but Willis does have a chance to battle with rookie Will Levis for the backup role. If Willis keeps hitting passes like the one he did to Derrick Henry below, it may be his spot to lose.

There are two relatively surprising elements to the video the Titans released. One, Willis throws an absolute dime that is on the money to his target. While Willis is a professional quarterback, he struggled with his accuracy last season so to see such a long, but on-target throw makes your ears perk up.

Not only that, but the recipient of the deep throw was none other than all-pro running back Derrick Henry. Henry is a fantastic player, but he is not known for his receiving prowess. Henry set personal records for receptions and receiving yards in 2022, but no one considers him a pass-catching back.

Henry was mostly asked to catch screens and swing passes for most of his career, but maybe in this new offense from Tim Kelly, Henry will expand not only his pass-catching responsibilities, but his ability to accomplish those tasks.

We may see a new side of Henry, but at the end of the day, it is still Derrick Henry. Willis is who really has been the surprise this offseason, as mentioned above. Reports from Titans camp talk about Willis like he is a new player.

Willis is looking a lot more comfortable this season. On the field and in the huddle. He is going through his progression and making his reads with much more confidence. That should probably be expected though considering Willis came from a small school in Liberty and had little experience with pro-style concepts.

This was a throw on air, so they won't be throwing a parade down Broadway, but if Willis can continue to pull off plays like this and continue to get comfortable, he could just shock the world and become the Titans quarterback of the future.
