Pastor Vernon Shazier’s strongest attribute has always been his faith in God. That faith was tested on a Monday night when his wife called him to alert him that their son, Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier, had been substantially injured and that he couldn’t move his legs. SI’s Greg Bishop spoke with Robin Lundberg about his feature on Vernon’s battle with his faith during Ryan’s recovery from what many thought was an injury that wouldn’t allow him to ever walk again.
