The Vikings have announced their first wave of 15 cuts ahead of Tuesday's deadline to set an initial 53-man roster.

Waived

These 12 players have less than four accrued seasons, meaning they will be subject to waivers before the Vikings could consider signing them to practice squad contracts.

  • DL Calvin Avery
  • CB Kalon Barnes
  • CB C.J. Coldon, Jr.
  • T Christian DiLauro
  • CB Jameson Houston
  • LB Wilson Huber
  • WR Garett Maag
  • RB Abram Smith
  • OL Josh Sokol
  • QB Jordan Ta'amu
  • TE Colin Thompson
  • T Jarrid Williams

Several of these players — including Houston and Ta'amu — were just signed very recently. Barnes and Sokol are the only ones who have been with the Vikings dating back to last season. Avery, Coldon, and Huber were part of Minnesota's UDFA class this year.

Terminated, Vested Veteran

These two players, who were signed for special teams purposes in the preseason, are veterans with more than four accrued seasons. They are not subject to waivers and will immediately become free agents again.

  • LB Jake Gervase
  • LB Tanner Vallejo

Waived/Injured

  • CB Tay Gowan

Depending on the severity of Gowan's injury, he could revert to the Vikings' IR if he clears waivers. He could also end up being released with an injury settlement.

Rosters must be reduced to 53 players by 3 p.m. central time on Tuesday. After that, the Vikings can form their practice squad. This is a busy time for roster moves in the NFL, with teams looking around the league to see about potential trades and waivers claims to add to their roster.

The Vikings' roster now stands at 76 players, including OL Chris Reed (Active/Non-Football Injury).
