Vikings Fifth-Round Pick Jaquelin Roy Agrees to Terms on Rookie Contract

Roy will look to battle his way up Minnesota's depth chart at defensive tackle this offseason.

Vikings defensive tackle Jaquelin Roy, a fifth-round pick out of LSU, has agreed to terms on a four-year rookie contract worth $4,179,772, per NFL Network's Mike Garafalo. The prices for rookie deals are set based on a player's draft slot, but there are other aspects of the contracts that need to be negotiated before they're officially signed. Minnesota traded up to get Roy with the 141st overall pick this year.

Roy is a Baton Rouge native who stands at 6'3", 305 pounds. He's a big, powerful DT who did 30 reps of 225 on the bench press at this year's combine. Roy spent three seasons at LSU and became a starter in 2022, finishing his college career with 13.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, a forced fumble, and three fumble recoveries. Although his lateral movement skills are iffy, Roy's best trait is his ability to hold his ground and shed blocks with his stout, forceful frame.

Roy is the first of the Vikings' six 2023 draft picks to agree to terms on their rookie deal. Similar news is likely coming soon for fellow draftees Jordan Addison, Mekhi Blackmon, Jay Ward, Jaren Hall, and DeWayne McBride.

In Minnesota, Roy will be competing for snaps at defensive tackle with players like Dean Lowry, Khyiris Tonga, Jonathan Bullard, James Lynch, and Esezi Otomewo.

The Vikings' rookie minicamp is set for this weekend, May 12-14. It'll include the team's six draft picks, their 15 undrafted free agents, and a big group of undrafted prospects invited to camp as tryout players.
