The Vikings have agreed to terms with journeyman veteran wide receiver Trent Sherfield on a one-year deal worth $1.79 million, according to The Athletic's Alec Lewis. He adds some depth, experience, and speed to their WR room.

Sherfield, 28, went undrafted out of Vanderbilt in 2018. He spent the first three years of his career with the Cardinals, catching 19 passes for 210 yards as a rookie. Sherfield was then with the 49ers in 2021, the Dolphins in 2022, and the Bills last season, so the Vikings will be his fifth team in five years. The biggest year of his career came in Miami two years ago, when he played over 600 offensive snaps and posted a 30-417-2 receiving line as the Dolphins' WR3. He caught 12 passes for Buffalo in 2023.

This is a depth addition for the Vikings at the wide receiver position. They've got Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison locked in as their top two in that room, but K.J. Osborn is expected to land elsewhere in free agency. Sherfield joins Brandon Powell — who was just brought back on a one-year deal — and Jalen Nailor as candidates to be the No. 3 receiver in Minnesota. That room also includes N'Keal Harry, Trishton Jackson, Lucky Jackson, Daylen Baldwin, Malik Knowles, and Thayer Thomas.

Sherfield is a 6'1", 205-pound receiver who ran a 4.45 40 coming out of college. He also posted good numbers in the bench press and broad jump, earning an 8.89 RAS. Even as he joins his fifth team, his speed, experience, and versatility make him a decent low-cost addition. Sherfield is a quality run blocker who plays on special teams, which helps his value.
