The Vikings are currently slated to have nine picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, but none of them will be of the compensatory variety. Because of their busy offseason last year, they won't be awarded any comp picks via the formula that assigns them.

Each year, the NFL gives out 32 additional draft picks to teams that lost more value in free agency the previous year than they added. There's a whole formula that revolves around the average annual value of new contracts signed by eligible players in free agency. The Vikings lost Dalvin Tomlinson and Patrick Peterson in free agency, but those were cancelled out by the signings of Marcus Davenport and Byron Murphy II.

On top of that, the Vikings also signed Josh Oliver and Dean Lowry. Released players like Adam Thielen, Eric Kendricks, and Dalvin Cook don't count toward the comp pick formula. Here's who Over the Cap currently projects to receive comp picks in this year's draft.

The Vikings had a compensatory sixth-round pick last year, two comp picks (including a fourth-rounder) in 2021, and three comp picks (including a third-rounder) in 2020.

While they won't get any this year, they could be in line for some significant compensatory selections in 2025. Kirk Cousins and/or Danielle Hunter could potentially walk in free agency and sign massive contracts, which would likely result in the Vikings getting a third-round comp pick or two. Other Minnesota free agents like Jordan Hicks, D.J. Wonnum, K.J. Osborn, Davenport, and Dalton Risner could factor into the formula as well.

These are the Vikings' nine picks in April's draft:

  • 1st round (No. 11 overall)
  • 2nd round (No. 43 overall)
  • 4th round (from DET)
  • 4th round
  • 5th round (from KC)
  • 5th round (from CLE)
  • 6th round (from CAR through JAX)
  • 6th round (from LV through NE)
  • 7th round (conditional from ATL through ARZ)
