Ex-Vikings News: Mond Cut By Browns, Dantzler Signs With New Team

In this story:
Let's go over some news involving a couple recent Vikings third-round picks who are no longer with the team.
Mond waived by Browns
Kellen Mond, one of the Vikings' four third-rounders in 2021, was waived by the Cleveland Browns on Thursday. The former star quarterback at Texas A&M failed to beat out rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson for the No. 3 QB role behind Deshaun Watson and Josh Dobbs.
Update: Nevermind. Dobbs was traded to the Cardinals on Thursday afternoon and the Browns never officially processed the move to waive Mond. He'll remain with the team as the No. 3 QB.
The Vikings took Mond 66th overall two years ago, but he didn't make it past his second training camp with the franchise once a new regime took over last year. It was roughly a year ago when the Vikings cut Mond and Sean Mannion and traded for Nick Mullens to be their backup QB.
Mond got the start for the Browns in the Hall of Fame Game this year but threw a bad interception to former Vikings teammate Chazz Surratt in that game. He finished the preseason 32 of 55 (58 percent) for 297 yards with 3 touchdowns and a pick. Thompson-Robinson, meanwhile, showed some intriguing dual-threat potential.
Dantzler joins fourth team this year
Former Vikings cornerback Cameron Dantzler, a once-promising 2020 third-round pick, has joined his fourth team of this calendar year, signing with the Houston Texans.
Dantzler, a lanky cornerback who turns 25 soon, flashed some potential during his three years in Minnesota. However, he frequently seemed to end up in Mike Zimmer's doghouse during his first couple seasons. Dantzler opened last year as a starter under a new coaching staff, but went on IR in November and didn't get his starting job back upon returning to full health.
The Vikings cut Dantzler in March, viewing him as a poor fit for Brian Flores' scheme. He was claimed on waivers by Washington, but waived after less than three months. Dantzler then signed with the Bills, but was waived with an injury designation after less than two months.
Now he's joining the Texans, where he'll look to battle for a roster or practice squad spot in a short period of time.
