Vikings-Buccaneers Inactives: Marcus Davenport Ruled Out

In this story:
Marcus Davenport's Vikings debut will have to wait. The veteran outside linebacker who was one of Minnesota's marquee free agent acquisitions this offseason has been ruled out for today's game against the Buccaneers with an ankle injury. He's inactive. Davenport tested out his ankle in warmups in front of multiple trainers and coaches, and the decision was made to keep him out today.
With no Davenport, the Vikings will likely use a rotation including D.J. Wonnum and Pat Jones II opposite Danielle Hunter at OLB. Benton Whitley is also available after being elevated from the practice squad.
After this game, the Vikings have a quick turnaround before facing the Eagles in Philadelphia next Thursday night. They'll hope to have Davenport available for that one, but it'll depend on how much progress he makes in the next few days. It's worth noting that injuries were an issue for Davenport during his time with the Saints.
Here's the full list of Vikings inactives:
- OLB Marcus Davenport
- OLB Andre Carter II
- DL Jaquelin Roy
- TE Nick Muse
- T David Quessenberry
- QB Jaren Hall (3rd QB)
Hall is listed as inactive, but he'll be dressed and available under the NFL's new third-quarterback rule. He'd only be permitted to enter the game if both Kirk Cousins and Nick Mullens were to get injured.
The Vikings are high on the futures of rookies Carter and Roy, but both have plenty of developing to do before making an impact. They're healthy scratches today.
Muse is the Vikings' No. 4 tight end, which shouldn't be needed barring injury. Quessenberry, a recent signing, is also inactive. Oli Udoh figures to serve as the swing tackle.
For the Buccaneers, rookie DT Calijah Kancey will play after being listed as questionable.
