In this story:

Vikings running back Alexander Mattison is active for Sunday's game against the Lions, although Ty Chandler is expected to remain the lead back after his breakout performance against the Bengals last weekend. Mattison will presumably serve in a complementary role out of the backfield, along with fullback C.J. Ham.

Also active for the Vikings are three key defensive players who came in with questionable tags: Linebackers Jordan Hicks and Ivan Pace Jr. and defensive tackle Harrison Phillips. Hicks is making his return after missing the last four games with a shin injury. He and Pace figure to both have big roles in Brian Flores' defensive game plan. Phillips playing is huge because of how important he is to the Vikings' run defense.

Inactive for the Vikings are cornerback Byron Murphy Jr. — who was ruled out back on Friday with a hamstring injury — and right tackle Brian O'Neill, who will miss a second straight game with an ankle injury. Veteran David Quessenberry will get another start at RT, where he figures to see plenty of Detroit's Aidan Hutchinson.

Here's Minnesota's full inactive list for today's game:

  • CB Byron Murphy Jr.
  • RT Brian O'Neill
  • WR Jalen Nailor
  • QB Josh Dobbs (emergency third QB)
  • G Chris Reed
  • TE Nick Muse
  • S Lewis Cine

Kickoff is at 12 p.m. central time at U.S. Bank Stadium and on FOX.
