The Vikings will be without cornerback Mackensie Alexander this week against the Giants. He has been ruled out for Sunday's game, along with linebacker Kentrell Brothers, who is a key special teams player.

Alexander played last week in Chicago for the first time since suffering a painful-looking elbow injury in the season opener. He played 41 of the 72 defensive snaps, recording three tackles. It was a bit of a surprise when he was limited in practice Wednesday, and was unable to practice on Thursday or Friday. Mike Zimmer said not having Alexander won't affect Sunday's game.

Expect increased snaps for Mike Hughes, who is now the Vikings' only true nickel corner available. Hughes has played two games since returning from an ACL injury suffered in October 2018, and was able to play without a knee brace in Chicago.

Josh Kline (concussion) will return at right guard after Dakota Dozier filled in for him last Sunday.

Diggs fined, status for Sunday unclear

The story of the week, all week, has been Stefon Diggs. On Friday, we learned that he was fined for missing practice on Wednesday.

It's unclear if he will play Sunday. Diggs said on Thursday that he "hopes they let me play." Asked on Friday if Diggs will play, Mike Zimmer didn't give a clear answer. "I don't know, we'll see," he said. Zimmer added that he will watch tape from practice to determine whether or not Diggs will play.
